Yeah, its gotten out of control, but I think we are partly to blame by encouraging them. They only do this because they crave attention, especially bad attention. If they get you angry enough to respond they have taken power over you and this forum. If they disrupt or distract, they feel important in a warped way. The homophobes, bashers, haters WANT you to be angry, your response no matter how nicely worded, is their reward. Without a response they have no reward.
Report Abuse and Move On (RAMO)
Report the abuser.
Report those that answer in support of the abuser. The small basher need to get a smack down for chiming in support for blatant hate or abuse.
Absolutely do NOT leave an answer or reply. That is exactly what they want, a reaction. They do this for the attention. They do it to disrupt. If you waste time collecting 2 points to say something they never will read, you are doing exactly what they want.
Every response is a reward. You may think you are helping, but all you are doing is encouraging him/her to do it again. Further, other would be bashers are encouraged to bash on their own.
Your response also opens you up to Abuse violation. Just merely giving your 2 cents worth is a violation. Your two point gain, could lead to 10 point loss, or loss of all your Yahoo accounts. REPORT ABUSE & MOVE ON
Don't ask a question of the group about a particular basher/troll. You have just given them a supreme compliment by devoting a question to them, thus ensuring they'll do it again.
Still need to complain? Then go to Yahoo!Answers message board and start a thread complaining about Trolls and Bashers. A link is at bottom of this and every page: "Tell us how we are doing"
Don't use the Report Abuse function for every minor mistake or as way to shout someone down. Believe it or not, people have the right to be dumb and people do have lapses of judgment, give them the benefit of the doubt.

Reread what Puffy said above and keep rereading it until it has sunk in.
The abusers prowl the LGBT category because too many of you encourage them to do so. The online gay community has the power to put an end to these unwarranted attacks if it chooses. The power is yours. Take it!
These online gaybashers view this as a sport and you are the opposing "team" which they hate and want to crush. They want your attention and they want to get you worked up and agitated. They want you to insult them and egg them on. Withdraw the attention which is the fuel that feeds them and they will wither in time and fade away.
Do not ask a question about a particular basher/troll. When you do you just give them a compliment by paying them the attention they crave. All this accomplishes is to ensure they'll come back for more. Stop feeding the beasts!
Report them yes. Again and again and again. But do not give them the attention they crave by answering their questions. Retorts and clever answers just feed them and make them stronger and strengthen their desire to come back and attack again. Do not fuel their attacks.
If they were completely ignored for a week or two they would hunt elsewhere for their fun and attention. Yes "hunt," because right now they are the predators and you are their prey. You need to realize that you are the ones with the upper hand here if you will only take hold of it. Do not continue to play their game by their rules.
To accomplish this will require a concerted effort on the part of the gay community using Y!A. These predators must be completely boycotted for this to work. But I'm telling you folks, you're already inundated with this crap and if you don't do something about it now, it's only going to get a whole lot worse.
RAMO should be your strategy. RAMO should be your rallying cry. Report if warranted. Do nothing else. Just move on. There are better things awaiting your time and attention.
Remember the sign at the zoo that says, "Do not feed the animals." There is a good reason for that and that reason applies here too.
Now go reread Puffy's answer a couple more times.

The whole reason they post harassment is to get a cheap jab in and stir up emotions. I agree that we should ignore them, however, there are too many people who want to engage in the argument and 'push back'. By having jerks post nasty questions, they have the chance to stand up and fight back. It may not stop a** es from posting, but it may be therapeutic to the answerer's to be able to tell somebody to f' off.

Exactly
Answering them gives them what they want.
Those that answer the trolls and haters are part of the problem, what they don't realize by answering they become prone to attacks too, and being reported for abuse violation.
Puffy's answer hits it square on the head.

Exactly. I stopped. I don't even give their questions a 'thumbs down' anymore. I don't want to feed their pathetic need for attention.
