I have a tortoise who hibernates every winter. He is outside and he has a little, covered dwelling in the corner of the yard. He will stay there all winter until it warms up in the spring. I have not had to keep him warm in the winter since he was 4 or 5 yrs old. He will be 16 on Jan 15, 2007. I don't know how cold it is where you are, I don't know if they are indoors, or outdoors, or how old they are. All of these factors will make a difference in what their needs are. I would call a veternarian or some reptile specialist if you can find one and ask them whats best in your particular situation. Good luck to you and I think it's great that you love your turtles like you do! God bless you!!

You can heat the turtle tank with a light bulb. Just seal off the tank so cold air cant get in and the heat put off from an incandescnet bulb will provide enough heat for your turtle. Raise or lower the wattage to get the proper temp.

Don't worry. When turtles hibernate they don't have to be warm as much. But u also shouldn't let it freeze. Just cover him whit blankets
and put it in something it can't escape. Then put the container next to a central heating, and check the turtle every day. He should be fine.

If you can't heat them up and keep them warm, then go ahead and try to hibernate them. It is tough, but easier than dealing with ill turtles all winter.
You did not say the species, but try this site:
http://www.austinsturtlepage.com Look fo rthe 'Articles' section, and look for the hibernation article there.
Good luck!

Any idea what kind of turtles they are? If they are aquatic like mine, I would use both a submersible aquarium heater and a reptile heat lamp, they should be found at any pets store.

get a wool blanket and put them in bed with you.if you roll over on them you wont hurt them unless they are very small.you could take them into the kitchen or a room that stays warm all night.
