I really am surprised at the responses from those who think slaves had it better off. Jimmy Manhindle said it best!

The fact that minimum wage workers get a check is enough. Slaves never received wages and were subjected to mistreatment by their owners. See that word, "owner?" Wage workers are NOT owned and can go as they please. If they do not want to keep the job at the pay they get, they can just leave. Slaves ran away to freedom - many were caught, beaten and/or killed. They were property and there were no "good" owners! If you owned a slave, you were absolutely rotten to the core! Why would you enslave someone to take care of your property, clean your house - lazy bums! Do it yourself or pay that person! It doesn't matter that in that century, they allowed it to be permissible - it was still wrong!

Minimum wage workers have an excellent standard of living because they get to live and make a choice.

The minimum wage workers of today are far much better than the slaves of the past. A slave had no freedom to decide nor plan the future as was considered as an object that could be sold from one elite to the other.

With slave wages one is free to continue getting them or call it quits and do something else for one's life. Slaves were being chained to avoid them from escaping - this was like prison life. If am not happy with a wage I would rather do something else for a living e.g. farming, washing cars, piece works etc.

People who make minimum wage. I am not sure if you paid attention during your history lessons but slaves were beaten, killed, and separated from their families. They did not have rights and did not have the chance to own the land they worked on. They were treated less than human. People who make minimum wage are not whipped, nor do they moved around like cattle.

If you consider free eats the dogs left overs (meaning what was left off the table for the dog) and litteraly the dogs left overs ,the weeds you won't pick in your own back yard to eat , the left over fat. And did'nt mind your employer beating your *** to get 250% production . And whipping your hide raw because you wanted to get away for a while in the woods on a sebatacle . Then I would have to concur that slavery was better. Oh yeah don't forget taking your children to the market because they had a bad quarter. minimum wage or hard labor in a prison camp you choose oh never mind you can't you have no choice your chained maybe even bound and gagged .........I'm sure a few had it great even if it had to be that they had an OWNER!!!!!!!!!!!!.......................................................sorry no time for free clothing and housing..

The minimum wage workers of course!!
At least they had freedom of speech, unlike slaves who were forced to do and say what their owners told them without whining.

Slaves were better ideal off. maximum vendors might want to take care of their well-being, because the vendors did not favor to lose their belongings. constructive, there change into abuse of slaves, yet in case you study their lives with the lives of minimum salary workers, you'll see the minimum salary workers are not from now on bodily sure, yet constrained through debt and poverty. the position you going to be able to bypass once you're in debt over your head, and also you may want to't manage to pay for to commute everywhere to get a better ideal job? minimum salary workers even might want to bear poor safe practices circumstances, poor clinical circumstances at artwork and residential, disrespect and abuse from administration and possession. i have witnessed sexual harassment, psychological abuse, and purely worry-free disrespect from coworkers and administration for low salary workers and undocumented extraterrestrial beings, who do not even make minimum salary.

Has everyone forgotten that slaves have no rights, are bought and sold as property, and don't choose their jobs, bosses, and can't quit if they don't like the job?
