This morning my 1998 Chevy Tracker didn't want to start... and this was the 1st time this has ever happened. I turned the key and the engine sounded like it tried to turn over once or twice, then a strange high pitch to low pitch wheeze happened and it wasn't trying to turn over anymore... I kept at it.. and the same thing happened over and over.. then... it started... and ran fine all the way to work - over 15 miles. When I got to work I shut it off then tried to start it up again and the same wheeze happened... sounds like the starter???

I think what the other reply was trying to say is that you have a bad "BENDIX" gear in your starter. When you turn the ignition to the start position thats the gear that moves in the starter housing and engages your flywheel thus turning your engine over. If it's bad, just replace the whole starter. Another possibility is some broken teeth on your flywheel. Sometimes when you turn off a motor the flywheel may be in a position if it has broken teeth where the starter cannot engage it.when you try to start. If you have the no start problem "ALL" the time my bet would be a bad starter.

the most in all likelihood culprits are the starter or the solenoid. in case you had a nasty connection someplace you would continuously have worry beginning the motorcar (and besides, you say the lights fixtures artwork and the fool lights fixtures seem once you change the major, so a nasty connection isn't going). that isn't any longer the alternator because your battery might want to continuously be death if the alternator change into going undesirable. replacing a starter and the solenoid will be really basic or a nightmare relying on the make and kind of the motorcar. some starters are really basic to get to, some are not. if you're not from now on going to attempt to do the artwork your self, your best guess is to take it to a community mom-and-pop mechanic with a sturdy acceptance. maximum of them supply loose estimates. stay away from the dealership in any respect expenses -- they fee accurate-greenback and do crappy artwork.

Sounds like the starter drive has given up or the starter solenoid has gone bad. Good luck.
