My partner spends a great amount of time viewing adult sites and he knowws that I get sad about it, even mad, but continues to do so....what kind of compromise is there?

Do not let him "experiment" on you the things he sees!!! You are a person and you should be treated with dignity! If you want to try these things, fine, but just keep yourself-respect.
He is addicted to an imaginary world where women are whores- objects for men to use for pleasure and then discard. He needs to realize that he's got a beautiful and great woman that loves him, and is probably willing to explore things in the bedroom... together. He shouldn't need the internet to get off. The real thing is so much better. If he can't get off the computer, he is being disrespectful and insensitive to your needs. You want to feel loved and wanted right? You want to feel like you are enough to keep him satisfied? Tell him that.
Let me also say, have you ever looked with him? It is very stimulating to view pics/videos, but it can be intimidating. It might make you feel a little insecure, but it could be a good compromise. You could get turned on together, and then... Just have some ground rules, like be respectful.
Porn is meant for stimulation, not for getting off. Why self-pleasure in front of a computer monitor, when you could be getting the real thing wit someone you want/love?

I am amused to know that when he has a person in sight before him, why should he watch those porn site? Or he may be trying to get aroused by watching the site. Better talk to him, tell him that you don't like the adult movies. Tell him not to waste time, when you are there in person, by looking at those movies.

Well, I am also crazy about porn sites ad porn movies. This is a habit, which once formed is not easy to leave. Best way is that he should experiment the actions of those sites on you.
