This would be my perfect job, (preferably face to face, but I'm also interested in home based.) However, I have heard a lot of horror stories... Any good companies, or real experiences out there...?

Yes. You have to apply to become a mystery shopper at the websites of these market research companies. They will then contact you if they have any assignment in your area. List of companies where you can apply free and links to relevant websites available at http://tinyurl.com/n474j

The only legitament mystery shopping business that I know of is shopncheck. Go to www.shopncheck.com and I believe you have to fill out an application, but they really do pay, from what I've heard. I've filled out the application and got accepted over a year ago, i've just never done any of the mystery shops. One of my really good friends did and she got paid, that's how I found out about it. But you go mystery shopping at places like cingular, mcdonalds, sam's club, etc. Hope that helps. Although it does pay, it doesn't pay much. You get a certain allowance, say $10.00 that you can spend there. After you're done witht he mystery shop, you send in your receipt and they reimburse you for your purchase and give you a certain amount for doing the shop, it's usually around 10 or 15 bucks. so, you basically get 20.00-25.00 free every mystery shop you do.

I am a mystery shopper (UK) and no it doesn't pay! The way it works is I have to go into a shop, buy something whilst asking the sales person all sorts of things, fill out a report on how they done then I get a cheque for £10.00 sent to me when the form is processed. It's alright if you like shopping and were going to buy something from the shop anyway!

Mystery shopper scams most often are propositions through email to cash a check. No mystery shopping provider company that I know of asks for any fees. If you do a Yahoo! search you are bound to come up with dozens of legitimate mystery shopping provider companies.

Stay away from Cash Create and other survey Web sites!

It's a waste of time and will cause you unhappiness.

If you choose to get suckered in and sign up to take surveys and receive free trials considered you were warned. The minute you give them your credit card and personal information you have now opened your computer to unwanted cookies on your hard drive, annoying pop-up windows and if you are on a PC you open your computer to viruses that can wipe you out.
