But I feel I have spent all my life looking after kids. However when I try to something for myself, my husband always puts me down, or gives me no encouragement whatsoever. I enjoy writing poetry, but he says it's a waste of time, so I have stopped. He has hobbies and goes drinking but I dont do anything, how can I get him to see that I need my hobbies too?

Sounds to me like you have a jerk for a husband ,,,, Were I you ,,, I'd go ahead and do what it is you want to do ,,,, You can't please every one and if you aren't good for yourself first then you can't be any good for any one else now or later ,,,, If he throws it up to you then just tell him that writing poetry isn't as expensive as his going to bars to drink ,,,, or anything else he indulges in that takes money ,,,, Sounds to me like he not only wastes time going to bars but wastes money to do it in the bargain,,,, You might suggest that to him ,,,, Just let him know that you claim the right to be who your are the same as he or anyone else does ,,,, If he doesn't like it then just tell him to live with it and get over it ,,,, Good luck ,,,,,, Yoda said this ,,,,

In a situation like this there is no easy answers, it sounds to me like if your husband takes you for granted and really is insentive to you personal feelings and happiness...If I was you, I would do some serious soul searching and make a decision to live your life doing what makes you happy.....No person has the right to judge another person.

I'm sorry for you. People should share things
and should take interest in each other's
interest. When he goes out he should take
you with him. I wonder if the two of you were
really meant to be together.
