Depending what is your research subject. Most share (equity) market research are based on historical data, so you could obtain the market data and individual stock data from many sources first.
Newspapers are good for starting. Whether you are researching individual stocks (fundamentally and technically) or the market. Start from newspaper first, spot the stocks of your interest and later develop your thoughts on the appropriate research subject.
