Not as in the movie - but what would qualify as a vanilla sky - colours, cloud formations - the things that would constitute to a vanilla sky is what I am looking for.

I would guess it's the American Indian Tales, of the Horses Tails. The high wispy clouds of horses tails, fore warning of a coming storm from the high winds generated from the Jet winds.
I know, I know, what did they know of the "Jet" winds but, they probably called it something else. I must have been close. My ten year old grand daughter brought this up to me.

The title is a reference to depictions of skies in some of the paintings of Claude Monet.
