Acutely this song was sang by fames Indian freedom Fighter Bhagt Singh,to get freedom from British rulers at that moment.The mean behind is that a mother put that spirit in my soul, I can scarify my self for Free dam Basant is season when the season is changing from winter to warm and that time is really beautiful ,so the people come back from winter colors to summer colors and that colors is called basanti color so it has more sentimental meaning then color.Hope you understand now ,what is meaning of Rang De Basanti.

The title literally means "Color It Saffron." Saffron (yellow-orange) signifies sacrifice in India. The film title, if translated into English, is usually rendered as "Paint It Yellow."


Rang De Basanti (Hindi: रंग दे बसंती, Urdu: رنگ دے بسنتى) is a Hindi movie, a product of the Bollywood film industry of India. It was released on 26th January 2006; it was directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (of Aks fame). The film stars Aamir Khan, Soha Ali Khan, Madhavan, Kunal Kapoor, Siddharth, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni, British actress Alice Patten, Waheeda Rehman, Om Puri, Kiron Kher and Anupam Kher. The music is by A. R. Rahman and the album went on to become a chartbuster. The movie was well-received all over the globe, and grossed Rs. 345.5M in its opening week.[1] The film has recently been selected as India's entry to the Golden Globe Awards and will compete in the foreign language film category.[2]

The movie has been selected as the official entry from India in the best foreign language film category at the 2007 edition of the Academy Awards

Basant is Spring. Basanti is the Spring colour. Yellow to Saffron. Saffron is also the colour the priests wear. But we cannot just interpret mere words. We should get the "feel" of the song. This is one of the important Patriotic songs. He is talking to Mother India. Pleading and imploring her to colour India with her colours. Free the country from foreign rule.
