or how can i go back to how it was? the toolbar had files,edit,tools,a little house(home page) etc, thanks.

if you want to go back to IE6
To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 to return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP
Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel."
Click "Add or Remove Programs."
Check "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog box.
Scroll down the list and highlight the version of Internet Explorer 7 that you are running, and then click "Change/Remove."
Uninstall that,restart your PC and you are on IE6

Right click in the toolbar area. A menu will show which toolbars are available. You want the "menu" toolbar to have a check mark next to it. Clicking on menu bar in that menu will put a check mark next to it and make it visable.

I think they removed the menu bar to save space and for security reasons. If you want to have the menu bar at the top of the browser as it was in IE6, you can get this free fix here:

otherwise, without the menu bar selected in Tools, you can switch between on and off by hitting the ALT key. Neater...possibly!

Near the top right of screen you will see the word 'Tools' and a blue cogwheel next to it - click on it and then click on 'Menu Bar'.
Incidentally, your little house (home page) is 4 icons to the left.
