I think most women prefer to somehow torment their husband or boyfriend when they feel this. It is cheap and apparently makes them feel much better.

I get extremely bad period pain to the point I usually end up having to camp in the bathroom. My doctors put me on the pill at 15 because of my pains and yes although it helped to begin with, i now can no longer have the pill as my body reacts to them all and makes me constantly sick and constantly bleeding. It was not until last year when I had missed 5 periods then had an excruciatingly painful one that my doctors actually bothered to test for other things. Low and behold, I suffer from polycystic ovaries. Some months now are better than others; like today I'm having to have a bath every 2 hours as that is the only way in which my pain will ease, but I always find heat of some form helps no end along with drinking plenty of water (:

I get very bad pains too. This works for me and a few others i know:

Period pains are caused by inflammation. What to do is to take a regular dose of paracetamol or ibuprofen (or any other NSAID) 5-7 days before the period starts. This would reduce inflammation and then the pain would become significantly reduced. You may still feel a little discomfort, but not the terrible agony some of us get to face every month.

Dysmenorrhea is a medical condition, not a joke.

Ginger root powder in capsules does wonders. Also, she should be evaluated for Endometriosis, a benign but painful overgrowth of the uterine tissue that can cause pain.Hot water bottle & heating pad.
Elevate the feet, figure out whether it is sitting still or moving around that helps her cramps. Regular exercise will help to a surprising degree,
Talk with an OB/GYNn re. this just to rule out/find out whether anything serious behind this. Many birth control pills worsen cramps, despite their claims to the contrary. Cold also makes it worse.
Take good care.
A good balance of Calcium, Magnesium, and Vitamin D can be very beneficial. Also a good balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acid supplements can do wonders.

personally i am taking evening primrose pills. I used to be having super cramps so bad that i can't get off my bed during period. After taking the evening primrose pills, my cramp is getting better and the pain are much less intense...after about the 3rd months, the cramps completed stop.

You can give it a try. The evening primrose pills have to be taken everyday maybe 1-2 pills daily after food. During the period, double up the intake to 3-4 pills a day after food. Once the period over, go back to 1-2 pills daily.

It works for me...hope it work for your gf...

Drink lots of water, and avoid caffeine for that time of the month. and, drink Milk! If you excercise a little, or take short walks, that helps too. A hershey bar can help a little too!
