The 8800 is too expensive and I can't seem to be able to wait to get away from my 6600 with a 7600. Should I wait a little longer?

It's always like this- the first generation of any new video card technology is always way overpriced. As time passes and other cards are introduced, prices will come down. Right now the 8800 is the only DX10 card on the market (ATI hasn't released anything competing yet) so the price is sky-high. Just wait a few months...

Nvidia has recently released the 8800 which is the first ever card to support DirectX 10. Ati has not yet released any DirectX 10 capable cards, but they plan to do soon.

I believe that you should not buy a DirectX10 card right away as it is very expensive. Moreover, you should wait for the release of Windows Vista which is the only operating system to incorporate DirectX 10. Furthermore, you should wait for the release of some good video games which will take advantage of DirectX10, otherwise your investment in a new DirectX10 video card will be unreasonable.

I also think that as Windows Vista is released, and new games supporting Direct X 10 is released, and as ATI enters the competition, the price of DirectX 10 supported video cards will ultimately drop. The first generation cards are always expensive so you should wait some time before buying a Direct X 10 supported Video Card.
