It seems there are a lot of mysteries surrounding the moon and one is the fact it appears there is a possibility that the moon could be hallow. I don't know how much sci credit there is for this notion since it did come from a site arguingg the moon could be a big old spaceship lol.

Just to clear this point up: I am not saying I think the moon is a spaceship, I said I got this question from a site that argued it was so I know there isn't a lot of credibility lol

I think it is unlikely that the moon is hollow.

This can be shown to be false by calculating it's mass from the gravitational force experienced by say, a human or space ship on it's surface. The force can be measured and the mass of the moon calculated using Newton's gravitational equation. We also can measure the mass of the human/ship.

Since we at least know the material that makes up the surface of the moon, and assuming it's NOT hollow, it's density can be estimated.

We also can estimated the volume of the moon, again, assuming it's not hollow. volume = 4/3 * PI * R^3. From the density and volume, the mass can be calculated again.

If the two calculated masses are equal then the moon is not hollow.

If the mass calculated using Newton's method is greater then the moon contains denser material towards its core (which it will do :-D).

If the opposite is true - the Newton's mass is lower then the moon _could_ be hollow.

You can do these calculations yourself using some reference material. I'd be interested in the outcome. :-D

observe that in the process the 1st line of the Wikipedia get right of entry to it says that that's a pseudo-clinical theory. It additionally says that there is no evidence to assist the theory the moon is a hollow sphere... i could no longer have suggested it greater appropriate myself. The moon being hollow is in basic terms yet another a sort of stupid government conspiracies... or are you touching on the theory the moon replaced into in basic terms made hollow? there's a pseudo-clinical theory for the moon being hollow in basic terms clearly, and then yet another wacky conspiracy theory regarding the moon being made by making use of the US government. the two are not real. As somebody else suggested, the moon might have infrequently any gravity. and there's a clean occasion of its gravity by making use of finding on the Apollo undertaking video clips. except you go with to undertaking the moon touchdown, yet it quite is in basic terms yet another pseudo-clinical theory, and that i decide to take them one by one. The moon might could be organic, because of the fact the government wasn't around while ancients first appeared on the moon. or maybe they had a time gadget... oh this is sensible now. So if the moon replaced into clearly hollow, it does no longer have adequate gravity to make itself right into a sphere. It in basic terms does no longer artwork. There could be no tension, meaning no hydrostatic equilibrium meaning no sphere. So no, there is no clinical evidence.

If the moon was hollow it could not exert the gravitational pull which causes the tides to rise and fall. As for it being a spaceship, I think you should go for a long, brisk walk to clear your head!

Perhaps it's where Bin Laden is hiding!

Seriously though, the moon does have a lot going for itself to support that theory, as you no doubt know, but like anything like this don't expect to be finding out the answer too soon.

Not a chance Scott.

Simple physics in calculating the mass of the moon and its gravitational effect would stick the boot into that particular theory.

The gravity of the moon affects our tides. If the moon was hollow it would have a very low gravity therefore the moon could not be hollow

Of course not! The moon has gravity, though not so much. Gravity should be generated by the core and also, there is no natural space object known to human that is hollow.

As per my knowledge by studying Science & Geography since high school, it may not be hollow space.
Like earth, it has round surface and a lot of hollows on its.

If you are aware of what's on the back side of the Moon, it could very well be hollow.
