Yes, I agree it's stupid. I cannot understand the current obsession with poker. It's just a silly card game. The people who waste their money on this garbage should be spending it on their families instead.

They don't pay out when they "want" to; they pay out randomly with the odds favoring the house.

You have to understand that sometimes people gamble online because they hope to get lucky.

So yes, it's a computer, but because it's a computer, wins are randomized.

As long as online gambling is for entertainment purposes, it's all right. A lot of people spend money on entertaining themselves one way or another, and gambling just fits into that category.

I've often thought about it, how can they prove its fair when its on some remote computer somewhere else in the world. But I believe, in the UK at least, that the sites are regulated, and MUST pay out so much money in a time period.

Have you ever seen a fruit machine, how it says "average 70% payout" or whatever? Online gambling is similar in its output of cashola.

I know it works anyway, because I have a particularly lucky friend who has won a fair sum of money doing it.

very true, but all electronic games in vegas are also computers. all gambling is "rigged" so that most people slowly lose all their money. How do you think hotels like the bellagio and the wynn are built? Its not from the money from the "fabulous resturants". I've won some money with online gambling. But I've also lost some. They are regulated by a gaming commission just like in Vegas, but its usually an overseas commission...like the bahamas..thats a popular one.

You are completely right! It baffles me as to why they are allowed to operate! If you thought normal gambling was a stupid way to spend your money on, then internet gambling takes it a stage further! It must be so easy to fix all of the games so only 1/1000 people win.

I pity the people who have squandered their savings on these sites.

Honestly i found a few times that I won more with play money than i did with my real money but I still did win $40 in a poker machine which is pretty good, on the play money round though i won $1257.

yes - it is stupid & the odds are stacked against the player.
Gambling other than for a bit of fun is an illness , an addiction.
The only winner is the bookie or the casino.
Trouble is that even though most people realise this they keep on gambling.
A computer will be programmed to pay out less than it takes, just like the old one armed bandits.
So yes it is stupid but people get hooked!
There are always unsrupulous people ready to take advantage of the gullible.

Not just online, but gambling in general! I went to school with a girl whose father owned a chain of local bookmakers and she was the only girl in class with a pony, so work it out for yourselves! The only winners are the bookies and the casino owners.

Never appealed to me, once I went to the track, I placed a bet on a horse that was a 42 to 1 shot, I placed $20 down on the horse, I gave the agent a $50 bill, I was so worred about my change, that I forgot to take the ticket....The Horse came in ! That loss, taught me a valuable lesson, that probably saved me hundreds of thousands of dollars !

I'd say smoking is the top stupid thing to spend money on, then drugs, then gambling.

I spent money on smoking for 20 years and I have won a tumor in my throat.

Id rather have lost £10000 on the horses.
