I love my afternoon naps (I can only take them at the weekend when my daughter has one, so I sneak in with her!) and feel deprived all week, and slightly miffed if I can't have one. I used to hate the post-lunch sleepy slump I used to feel when I worked in an office and would have loved somewhere comfy, dark and warm to lie down for half an hour. However, it'll never happen, which is a real shame.

If you take a break at lunchtime, your performance increases so you are more productive in the afternoons. Many salespeople on the road have a "nap" in the afternoon and it does seem to recharge the batteries so I can only assume there are no negatives here and for many it could rest the brain and do you good. We all suffer from sleep loss so this would help pull back/clear the deficit.
Take care though. Until I found out I was diabetic, I was so tired I used to have a sleep during my lunch hour which helped me through the day. Unfortunately a number of so called intelligent people in HSBC thought this was funny and there was a whispering campaign saying I was past it/couldn't take the pace. The b-tch in charge made life so difficult for me that I eventually felt obliged to leave. I should have taken them to court but was stupid enough to think I was too proud and could get a job anywhere. Not so as I was over 50 and I then experienced age discrimination. The conclusion here is that you should tell people you are to take a nap to improve your job performance. Tell your boss as it may be prefered to going to the pub for a drink.

I believe a quick nap is an excellent idea. It rejuvinates the boday and helps us focus more at the task at hand. You wiill be reengerized and this positive attitude will show when you interact with other people, and positve attitudes I am sure will help you and the company as well.

Great idea! A Siesta is common in other countries & they always seem so laid back & healthy. I'd go for that! Trouble is now with the 24/7 society we live in is that the art of rest & relaxation is gone so we have a stressed, violent & unhealthy population.

Afternoon nap not required. Dinner nap is fine for night shift staff.

Sure, you'll feel recharged! Bt the company shouldn't enforce such a thing. If you want to do it, nap through half your lunch break- it's what a lot of people do.

if you feel the need to have a nap perhaps you need to get to bed earlier at night
but if you are feeling tired why not take a brisk walk at lunchtime to put the wind back in your sails
