They do if they get too cool. Problem is that if they stay inactive too long and haven't enough body reserves they die. Keep 'em warm.

Why would they? There is no cold winter in africa. They are absolutely delicious in soup though!

No, mine don't. They will withdraw in to their shells if you keep them too cold though.
