The majority of the replys on here are 3rd grade level intelligence. A clever response might make someone learn or laugh. Just goes to show where this future generation is headed!

i disagree that the "majority of responses" are 3rd grade level,,,, many are very well thought out and well spoken responses, some of it depends in what category you go to mostly,,,,,, you get some very odd responses, both odd in lacking intelligence, and odd in being hateful/racist/ etc. (which is a form of ignorance i suppose) but overall, the responses are great, in my opinion,,,,

The internet does not breed ignorance. It is a wealth of information and knowledge. Why then, one might ask, are there obviously so many utterly moronic postings all over it? I think there are several reasons for this phenomenon.

1. Education today is pitiful. 40 years ago, grade 6 students were more advanced than grade 12 students today. In fact, I've engaged people in conversation, both in person and on the web, thinking they were grade 10 dropouts, only to later find out they were university graduates! I once regularly corrected the English of an English major in my office. (I'm the high school dropout.)

2. The baby boomers were over achievers and have been treating their children with kid gloves. Everything has been handed to them on a silver platter. Most of them don't know what it means to strive.

3. People were always this dumb, but we just never noticed. We had no internet that could bring us into contact with unlimited millions of idiots with a few clicks.

Its not the internet thats breeding ignorance. It's the people themselves. The lack of educational and informed answers only shows that either most of the population on the planet is incredibly.... can't think of a nice way to put it... or the education in the school systems of the world are seriously lacking.

No one, and I do mean NO ONE should not be able to understand even the most basic of how evolution works, how a baby is made, or any of the other extremely out there questions and answers that are posted.

I agree with you, it's incredibly disturbing and makes you want to smack the stupid people upside the head sometimes.

That being said, I do occasionally see some educated responses on these boards. It's just a pity that they're so few and far in between.

Generally speaking, Internet is the best thing ever to communicate. For this matter 3rd grade level intelligence are going to be more intelligence than 12ve grade intelligence of past. As I am from old generation and learning from 3rd grader.

I see what you are saying. It's getting to the point now that people trust their access to the Internet by computer for anything beyond grade school intelligence instead of building their own knowledge, by reading, school and experience. The Internet can be used as a resource, but it cannot always be trusted for reliable information.

As an elder in this generation, I must disagree. Admittedly, the spelling errors can be deplorable but the degree of inteligence is remarkable and the abilities which are diplayed are definetly higher in regards to computer skills and current knowledge levels.

Look at the quality of the question. If I don't want the answers then I don't ask the question. Some subjects people are touchy about and often have a knee jerk reaction too, still doesn't mean their not intelligent. We all have blind spots.

Some people's blind spot happens to be being judgmental it would seem. Mine is excessive numbers of opinions and not enough facts. ;).

Well it just seems that you must be the dean of a college with nothing better to do than to make pot shots on everyone else. Or your a college student whom thinks that his own feces doesn't stink. Since you never truly posed a question worth answering ill filibuster till i tire of writing or look at that i guess there is no need to continue intelligent conversation with someone that can't spell replies correctly.

I agree with you to the extenct that are many childish posts on this site. However, if you are asking everyone to think out everything first and then type in correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc...you may be asking to much. As much as there are simpletons out there, the internet has laso brought on the age of information. Never before in history have we had access to such knowledge...whether the people use it wisely, or choose to be ignorant...well...that's to be deicided...information/the internet/computers are still in their early stages...I believe the more advanced they become, the more intelligent the people will also become that use it. I hope my diction and prose suffice for your query.
