I downloaded an mpeg file on my hard drive that doesn't work. Now I can't delete it, I can't move it, nothing. It's like a tattoo! I ran a complete system virus scan and deleted any questionable content, but the mpeg is still there. How can I make this go away?

No, you most probably don't have a virus. The reason why you can't delete or rename the file is because some application (probably a crashed instance of your player) is keeping it open. Downloading and running anti-virus programs will NOT solve your problem, so everybody who suggested you to do so (with their canned answers) is wasting your time.

Rebooting the computer most probably WILL solve the problem - in the sense that it will get rid of the application that is keeping the file open and you'll be able to delete file. It's a bit of an overkill, though - in the sense that it is not necessary.

The best solution is to install the free shell extension Unlocker - see the link below. Then right-click on the offending file, select Unlocker from the menu that pops up and follow the instructions.

The chances are some other program is already got a lock on this file. Reboot your computer and hit F7 and load into safe mode. Try to delete the file then.

There is an offchance it could be a virus, You can download A copy of AOL's Active
Virus Shield. It's based on Kaspersky's Lab Antivirus
Which is one of the top rated killers.

You can download it and watch the walkthrough on
how to install it here:

If antivirus and spyware remover software does not work, you can try to restore the computer to an older working configuration. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
