I love my three big "red ear" turtles, but don't have time to take care of them. Does anybody know a sanctuary where they can be safe? I don't trust pet stores or other people who never had turtles...please help!

Contact the local chapter of the California Turtle and Tortoise Club at http://www.tortoise.org. They are great!

Just FYI, though- without knowing the situation in California, most reptile shelters are not taking Red-ears unless there is also a donation to cover care and food since almost no one will adopt an adult slider. the poor things are literally piling up in shelters around the country.

I guess my point for you is to please consider offering the folk who help some cash to help off-set the above problem!

somewhere in your area is The House of Tortuga, it is a turtle sanctuary and breeding facility. They have been on the Animal Planet before
