Having a ballet dancer in the family, I would have to say to you, you must be as agile and nimble as possible. Being a dancer is like being an athletic. It takes a lot of practice, a lot of difficult moves, hard, grueling work, good nutrition and focus. It isn't something that happens overnight. It takes years of dedication.

Yes, you can do ballet without being able to do the splits. The dance classes will actually help strengthen your muscles, so who knows, once you start dancing for a while you might become better at your splits. I'm 17 and have been doing ballet since I was 5 and can still not get all the way to the floor in my splits, but I can get pretty close, and sometimes it's better than other days because I stretch and just go for it.

Ofcourse. Ballet isn't just for the thin and nimble - take into consideration that ballet started as court dances in the times of King Louis "The Sungod." They certainly weren't doing the splits then.
If you are looking to get into ballet for personal enjoyment or growth as a dancer, you'll be fine. If you are looking to go somewhere with Ballet performance, I highly recomend you begin working on your flexibility.
I was able to get flat splits by stretching until the stretch became uncomfortable, then stretching further once the discomfort went away. I did this while watching television, and had my splits within a week.
Good luck!

Of course you can dance Ballet even if you can't do the splits. Now if you can't do the splits then you might not have a very good extension. But even if you take a dance class your muscles will start to lengthen and probably by the time you finish your class youcould possibly be able to do the splits. Its just a matter of keeping a routine in your stretches.

Of Course!! I have taken dance for twelve years. I could do the splits for less than a year, and I have been fine. I am now an assistant teacher. You don't have to be able to do the splits to be flexible and you don't have to be extremely flexible to do ballet. Ballet actually helps you become more flexible. So no, it doesn't matter.

if you mean splits, then yes. but i am also a dancer. I take hip-hop and jazz. As a begginner, i was scared throught the pain of all the missery i`d go through. But luckily, it was easy. See if you can take ballet classes. I don`t even think they do splits in ballet...but i`ll ask my dance teacher. Splits are fun...and make you more felxible for all the moves you have to do in dances!

Most definitely; this is my 14th year of doing ballet, and I still can't do the splits. Ballet combines grace, balance, artistry, technique and flexability, which is where splits come in. If you can do them, you'll be able tohave better form when doing leaps, perhaps, but it's not critical. Stretch, do pilates, and hopefully your flexibility will improve. If not, it won't be the end of the world.

If you don't mind doing other moves than that, yes.

You can still learn slowly to do the splits, so even if you take Ballet and can't do the splits, you'll probably learn there.

Most definitely.
Ballet is a form of dance. In time you will stretch out enough to accomplish the splits.
If you never do that is fine too.
