western saddle restoring?

I bought a used western saddle a while ago and was wondering if there was any way to reverse the darkening on it.

Also it is chewed up a tiny bit in some places and was wondering if that might be a problem at all.

I restored my saddles using Leather New, but it just made them supple, but not lighter..I filed the rough areas down with an emory board..However, you can take it to a saddle shop or leather shop and see what they might have to use on it..Just look the shops up in the yellow pages, as nearly every area has them..Or check at the feed supply for products or to learn who does the work in your area.

A high quality saddle soap will clean the leather but if it has darkened from old sweat and hand oils and horse sweat and the like you are not going to lighten it up much only clean off the dirt.
You can always go darker in color but not lighter with leather.
If this is an old saddle you might want to take in it to a saddle maker or someone who repairs them and let htem go over it and replace things like girth strap ties and such as those are important and you want nice new thick leather that will not break.
It should not cost much and they can clean it at thesame time for you. They do a great job and I have my saddle done about every three years or so. I clean mine each year really well but take in it every so often and let htem clean it and check for wear and to make sure the tree is ok.
