I have a baby of 2 months and 3 weeks and I'm doing dream feed but it seems here in Switzerland they don't like the idea of waking up babies to feed them but no one can tell me why it's nt good for the babies.

Because the infant will wake itself when it becomes hungry. There is no real harm in letting the baby sleep or waking the baby up to feed them!

What my midwife told me was that babies need sleep just as much as they need food. And only the baby knows the exact amount of each they needed. So if they were sleeping let them sleep and if they were hungry then feed them. That's what we did and your daughter slept through the night from around 3 months old. Hope this helps you some. Good luck with your little one.

~We're in the US btw but i think it's still the same reasoning.

It is completely up to you. Some people like to get their babies into a routine, some would rather let the babies be the boss of their bellies. We chose NOT to wake up our sleeping baby to feed him. Babies will wake up on their own if they are hungry, so we opted to get sleep when we could!! If you would rather be able to rely on specific times to wake and feed your child, start getting into a schedule.

Good Luck!

The reason they say not to wake up babies to feed them is because if they're still sleeping.. then they're not hungry. You want to have your child on a schedule of sleeping, waking and feeding. If your child is sleeping through the night, then allow him too. If you continually wake him to feed him, he is going to get into a habit of waking at night to be fed when he's older, and that's a habit that you don't want him to get into.

If he's sleeping, then let him sleep. When he's hungry, he'll wake up.. and then you can feed him.

As any decent doctor will tell you. No child will intentionally starve themselves. Babies, just like adults, have different metabolisms. A very key part of baby's growth is sleep. Even outside the womb they are developing. There is so much going on in their little bodies. If you are constantly waking them you are messing up their cycle. You only sleep when you need it. When they don't need sleep they will wake and eat and play.

CONGRATS!

At almost 3 mos, it should be FINE to wait for baby to wake on his own unless there is some kind of serious weight gain problem going on.

SLEEP is paramount to the physical and mental development of babies; there is no need at all to rouse them from sleep - they will wake up when they have rested - time to feed. Is it for your convenience to wake them up to feed?
