Can they tell ahead of time, and then rush me off for a c-section, if need be? I had an emergency caesarean, then fell pregnant again 3 months later. what are my chances of a successful vbac?

Wow! The same exact thing happened to me and I am again pregnant. You can attempt a VBAC if you really want to but my advice would be to opt for a second c-section. I am doing this to be on the safe side because I wouldn't want to risk having a rupture. It hasn't been long since you had the previous c-section so I would advise you to seriously think about it for safety reasons. I know it is a bummer to have to go through it again but it's better to be safe than for things to go terribly wrong.

There is no way to predict this in anyone. Even someone who has never had a cesarean can have a uterus rupture. Luckily this is very uncommon! If you had a low transverse incision on your uterus your chances of a rupture are really not much greater than someone who has never had a cesarean. Most of the time when a uterus does rupture it is because of drugs given to the mother (Cytotec, pitocin, etc.) to either induce or augment labor.

The risks of a repeat C-section must be explored too! A cesarean is major surgery with potential side effects for both you and your baby, and future pregnancies. I would do some major research. The best web site to go to is the International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN)

If you were cut up and down instead of a binkini cut you have an increased chance of rupture. I would speak to your doctor if you have concerns. I am sure they will have you delivering in an operating room if you decide to continue with a vbac. In case something does go wrong then all the help you will need will be in one room.

You may see about a second opinion. There are OB physician who specialize in vbacs. I am sure they will be able to ask some questions to see what your risks are.

Good Luck
