That's a great question..... perhaps more apt for men!
Both fear and courage have their place and value .... when apt, they are wise and when misplaced, they are unwise. If we know this and realise properly, we won't any more be afraid of being afraid nor even shy of being afraid. Romantic value placed in courage makes us foolhardy!! Wisdom should not be confused with cowardice!!

Being afraid is what we all do sometimes, but some of us have special cases where they get a very bad case of paranoia or a bad case of depression, where the world starts to become a really scary place for some who are depressed.
Basically, being afraid makes us mortal, and being mortal means we can be human. It's all part of our lives, and we can't change that.

Because it is humanly to have feelings: of fear, joy, insecurity, love, hate, etc, etc. To many people, manifestation of fear (or of being afraid) may exhibit signs of weakness. So, most of us try to suppress this outwardly.
But it is normal to be afraid: of losing one's loved ones, of losing our job security, and of many other things we are concerned with. The more we try not to show signs of being afraid, the more stress we may generate internally, as this may add on an additional burden upon ourselves.
Therefore, we have to learn not to be so conscious of what others think of us. Learn more to live not so much upon other people's opinion, and then we discover, through time, that when we exhibit manifestations of "weakness" such as crying (when we grief), of being afraid of taking foolhardy course of actions, we find that those who know us will accept us, and actually have a stronger relationship with us. For we show true emotions.

Because the only true fear is fear itself. We fear to be frightened for it also shows a sign of weakness and makes us vulnerable to the thing we fear, Fear itself. No one really likes to be backed into a corner in fear, so some will stand and face that with the strength to overcome that fear. Stone cold that is the expression used for people like that. They freeze up in a sense to block out their fears. Like a soldier over in Iraq, or anywhere for that matter he numbs himself so not to be afraid or he/she will probably die or be captured if they become that vulnerable to fear. Get it?
You got to toughen up to beat those fears, it's only life that is all it is.

because once fear dominates us, we are unable to think clearly and rationally as we lose control over our life. this disruption to our balanced life will trigger various possibilities and we are afraid to lose what we have. cheers!

We feel fear in situations we cannot control, and the greater our fear, the more we lose any control we might have otherwise held onto.
It's not so much that we fear fear, but the vulnerability inextricably linked to it.
