It depends on what you mean by "cease to exist". From most of the answers I've seen so far, they're thinking in terms of politics and economics. Which is true enough, as far as it goes - no nation is indispensable to the rest of the planet. Otherwise, there'd be nothing now (since Rome, the Huns, the Babylonians/Mesopotamians, etc have all passed into history).
However, you've posed this in the "Earth Science and Geology" section ... which might mean you're looking at a sudden geological vacuum where a large chunk of North America used to sit.
If this were to happen - the average sea level would (most likely) go down, if the land was "scooped out" and water rushed to fill the void. Alternatively, if the plate supporting the surface slipped or tilted, the average sea level would be seen to rise, as the landmass sank beneath the waves.
Wind and weather patterns would change fairly dramatically ... particularly for close neighbors like Canada and Mexico. Without the land surface to raise temperatures and/or mountain ranges to act as funnels, the patterns would become something unlike anything seen in this hemisphere - perhaps ever, by human eyes.
If, as we first assumed, the land was removed ... it would depend on how it occurred. If vaporized by some titanic blow (a meteorite?), there'd be a lot of other things to worry about world-wide, such as the fallout and changes to basic environments. If the removal occurred without intervention (a simple vaporizer?), then we'd only have to deal with the fact the landmass is missing.

All countries would talk to each other and learn to live in peace.
No doubt a country would pop up to act as leader but not dictate in the way the US does.
Fair trade would blossom and as a result there would be far fewer starving people.
The use of the US government to try and force other countries to use genetically altered foodstuffs would cease and the world would be able to buy and eat what it chooses.
The list is endless.
But hey lets not get the US to cease to exist. Lets hope it can learn to lead instead of dictate. Honour it's agreements. Join with the rest of the world and act fairly. Act with everyone else to curb pollution. Trade fairly with others. The list of course is endless.
But somehow I think your question may have a point. America is growing more and more enemies. Not from war as you may think but because of the way it dictates to other countries, the way it distorts and prevents fair trade. It's car industry is suffering whilst others are growing. Other countries are investing in new, pollution free and far more efficient machinery and processes whilst America fades out of manufacturing with it's highly polluting, innefficient strock. The dollar is sick and getting sicker. Unless America joins with the rest of the world and learns to lead they will certainly loose first place, probably to China and will innevitably loose nearly all influence and power in the world.
Every empire the world has seen has eventually failled and America seems bent on doing just that now.

Technically, and according to Creation, nothing would change... Remeber, nobody is indipensible - same goes for countries.
The basic principle is that ALL countries are self sufficient - as long as normal life survival is concerned.
The US is not providing something magical, the Japs are beating them at Cars, the Russians in Space, the Indians in software,,, comparitively, much worthier civilizations (of their time) dissappeared, but the world goes on.
Coz its not any country that drives life - but the philosophy of Creation - which nobody comprehends - coz all are Humans. Thats what US needs to understand, and stop acting as God.
It is the unnatural mindset of USA (Godly thinking) that is creating much problem..
Yes, I take the point of terrorists - thats the short term naive view, an educated look will reveal that USA is behind the ground work od creating these terrorists (earlier, it was the British Empire)

Young country or not, the US is the only military superpower at this time. Without it 1 of 2 things would happen.
1) The so called 'terrorist' countries would take it as an opportunity to attack others without the fear of someone stepping in and telling them they are bad.
2) No one would care. Mexicans get more space to live in, and much lower wages if they come here. The natives; the Indians form the United Indian Alliance and try to remain separatists.

well, these countries, which have been the original makers of civilizations, and everything associated with that, such as art, language, etc., these places being Egypt, Rome, Greece, and Mesopotamia which is now modern-day Iraq, existed WAY before the U.S. ever did (although north america with its Indian tribes always existed), so why would they suddenly stop existing? Americans don't keep the world going, we are not the supreme country of the world, as much as we would like to believe.

it has been suggested that in just 40 years or so, China and India will have the world's largest economies. If the strongest economy is any indication of the ability to sustain a government, then these 2 nuclear powers could well be major contenders in the future

The other inhabitants of Earth would carry on with their lives whether the USA was there or not. Remember that the USA is a relatively young country.
