its a real pain in the *** depending on what type of event your planning. If your planning an art show then its fairly strainght forward. but if, for example, your planning a big hippy jam band festival then you'll be dealling with the feds and the local cops the local businesses and resident not to meantion bands, drug over doses and the like .

Yes, it is profitable. My fiance's ex-wife was an event planner about 10-15 yrs ago & at the time she earned between $50,000 - $80,000 a yr (or so he says).

The success part: You need to be very energetic, have a talent for detail, you must be self-confident & a person who really likes people because you would be dealing with lots of them.
Hoteliers, caterers, printers, entertainment - I can't even imagine the range of knowledge you would have to accumulate.

Where to find a job? She worked for a company on the lookout for clients & who entertained the clients they already had. Check with personal offices of large companies (or a branch of a large company) within your area. If they use event planners, ask if you can make an appt with one who can give you more information.

Hotels have event planners & also convention centers.

It might not be a bad idea getting a job with a planner to see what its like & to get experience in the field.
