I have done both when storing cars. And I do live in a harsh climate. The bad thing about not winterizing is that you think you can start it once a month--and then you forget to. I would seriously recommend winterizing and putting a fuel stabilizer in the tank. Gas can go bad within 60 days and turn into a varnish like substance and ruin fuel delivery system.

outboard ??? Flush, and Fog the engine, that's all you need to do to the motor (store in the "Running" position to let the water drain out of the heads, stabilize fuel, (if it's a small amt. of fuel left, use it in the lawn mower, start motor next season with fresh fuel, stabilizers don't work as long as they say, fresh fuel is ALWAYS the best. Cover the boat, the idea is to let "AIR" in, and keep water out. check boat once a month. This should take 1 hr of your time, or do you prefer starting in EVERY WEEK ? Winterizing is always best !

You should be OK, but do empty the water systems. We use cheap vodka for the drinking system because it doesnt make the water taste as bad as the pink stuff. I color it with food color to tell when it is in the pipes. We also have a West Marine heater that goes on when the temp is below 38 degrees. We run it near the engine.

Cars have (or should have) antifreeze. Boats don't. One freeze can crack your block. A $15,000 boat becomes a $3,000 boat, when it has a cracked block. Don't be lazy, it only takes 1/2 an hour, and about $10.00 in supplies to winterize your boat. Don't forget the gas stabilizer.
