It's about 1, 5 hour by plane. As Batam is on different island then Jakarta.
Batam is nearer to Singapore than to Jakarta, you can reach Batam by ferry/boat for less than an hour from Singapore.
And I don't think it's convenient for you to go there if you stay in Jakarta. It's far away..Try another place..

Hi, from Jakarta to Batam via Flight takes abt 1hr 20min maybe little bit lesser....If you go to Batam, stay at the Holiday Inn resort, you will have a good time there....
Batam was good acouple of years ago but now bcs of the illegal casino being shut down, the place is kindda deserted, you will find boring if you dont stay at Holiday Inn resort....
I travel to Jakarta often and i have been to Batam from Jakarta acouple of times.
Batam is a beautiful place but bcs less tourist from neighbouring country come nowadays its kindda boring, but on the otherhand you must be after the scenery and relaxation, tryout the spa in Holiday Inn resort, you'll love it, full indulgence of relaxation....
Goodluck and have fun.

Hi,
Batam is almost 2 hours by plane from Jakarta. It is basically a transit place to and from neighboring country. Also, lots of factory there (few years back its a tax free area).
Nothing much to enjoy in Batam tho.
If you are in Jakarta and want to have some fun to nearby area, I suggest you to Bandung (2 hours by car) or Puncak (2 hours by car) or Pulau Seribu (thousand island - where you can do island-hopping)
Have fun!
