My experience was during urination. When my water broke I actually heard a slight pop sound. Regardless of the sound or not, you will know that your water has broken when there is a continuous flow of liquid from the vagina when you are not urinating. There is the possibility of low amounts of fluid, but this is usually noticed by the doctor before you go into labor. If you realize that your water has broken, but there doesn't seen to be a lot of fluid, get medical attention as soon as possible; low amounts of ambiotic fluids can cause problems with your delivery.

I was sleeping when my water broke and I got up with the gush. You'll know when your water breaks. I got up before the water rushed out and I was in the bathroom in time not to spoil my carpet or the bed.

But many times the water doesn't break and the contractions start before so everyone is different

My water did not break personally but I do now that its NOT always a huge gush. My sisters broke and it was a slight trickle just like urine. She went to the hospital and they took a little piece of litmus paper and touched it to the fluid and it turned blue or something. If you are truly worried get checked out. Also you can sometimes talk the dr into giving you some of the little papers to test with at home. My sister had to use them with her 2nd child.

I guess when its running down your legs! lol

Someone said its a gush but it may not be a big gush, it could be a trickle. Sometimes the baby's head is so far down (engaged) that it stops it gushing. My last pregnancy i had 2 smallish gushes, at first i thought i may have wet myself. But then i had a second and it didnt smell like urine. Some women say they feel like something went pop/strange feeling inside there stomach.

It feels like you have urinated on yourself and it is a lot of water. But your water can also leak, which is very dangerous, so if it is just small amounts at a time then you should contact your doctor as soon as possible.

When you urinate, you can stop the flow, but when your water breaks you can't stop it. So if You think your water is breaking try to stop it, just as if you were urinating. Sometimes the doctor will have to break it and it can also leak .
