Many men that I knew are dead. Quite a lot have died that I knew from my childhood. Lots of men died in my town over the past five years aged 30-55. I don't know any women that have died so young; course I know it happens.
Men are in denial over how much a woman helps them and most women are in denial that men die MUCH younger than them. Women are the social police and force men to face life alone ("act like a man" etc.) Heaven forbid the man loses his job; many women will divorce just for that!! How many men divorce their wives because they lost their job?
Often here on Yahoo Answers you will see women "correcting" the way males act. Just totally verbally insulting them (if a guy did that to another guy, he'd get a punch in the nose.)
This happens in real life and in every office women gang up on innocent guys (when one woman doesn't like him or lies about him the rest ostracize and don't talk to him.)
Quite a lot of guys like my brother died going thru divorce. I don't know any woman who dies
going thru a divorce; course I know it happens.
Women do a million and one things for us guys.
They really do and we are lucky when one of em loves us. However they live and lead an alien social culture compared to men. Women are "allowed" to talk and ***** to each other even if they are strangers without being judged weak or gay.
Tetosterone forces men to be different and often this difference leads to a shorter life. Having friends helps ease the pains in life and men have many social taboos per talking to other men, sharing activities and making male friends.
Alone, creatures struggle more and die younger. Together with other animals, life is easier to navigate and is more fun. All women ask men to validate them. Yet it is against the social norm for men to ask women to validate us/our struggles.
While our loved ones will validate us, they will (can) only go so far before SOCIETY DEMANDS they label us weak. Perhaps I am wrong as I am 100% prejudiced; I can only see thru male eyes.
So often the man MUST go it alone! Even if wrong, we won't seek out help. Can you imagine a man just breaking down and sitting on a sidewalk crying? Saying how his exwife left him?
What would be the reaction? Most likely the police would arrest and take him to the hospital. Now what would be the reaction if a woman did the same thing
(saying her exhusband left her?) Women are allowed to temporary go insane! ("It's that time of month officer.")
Therein is the answer to your question. Truth hurts... This of course, does not negate any of the million and one things a woman will do for a man. Just that this same woman may cry and complain about it all over town, on the internet, in the shrink's office and other women will hug her.
But alas let a man do that? Don't think too many men will hug him and say "don't worry bro, been there done that. It will be ok." In fact male friends will IGNORE and go out of their way to escape "bill's ranting again."
And women WILL NOT listen to nor have sympathy for the guy who has problems like going thru divorce. Go ahead, join ten grieving, divorce or other social services group on Yahoo and see the difference!! Women support other women; men are ALWAYS thought to be the guilty (bad) one.
Bottomline, different social lives, more social taboos for men, harder riskier jobs and lives and tetosterone's "mission" shorten men's lives.
Peace

How do women outlive men in age?
In what other way can one outlive another then?
Some of us are genetically programmed to live lives of a particular length ~ for some reason or another. Generally, and listening to an actuary on Radio 4 today on this subject, women generally live longer. Funnily enough though, more women than men tend to die during or as a result of childbirth. Strange, isn't it!

There are several good reasons, but that's the first I heard of carefree living being one of them.
It has to do with the hormone estrogene. It gives women about 5 more years of life.
One area of concern for women is her heart. Many times women don't show the same symptoms of having a heart attack as a man, so it's just something to be aware of as a woman.
Here's to living a long, happy and healthy life!

Hi,
My humble opinion, shored up with scant facts, is:
1) The statistics on male/female life expectancy is based on models that date back a couple (if not more) decades
2) There is a communal/societal/global shift in energy which supports female energy - once again.
1) The statistics we review NOW are the statistics of the past.
It has been true in these past 200 years or so in this country that men died younger than women. Let us not forget the fact that the cause of younger death in men was 'combat'. Let us also not forget that the cause of many MALE premature deaths are also caused by combat - be it in a national, global, or personal war.
Do women enjoy a carefree life more than men?
To address this question in general and not necessarily relating to the subject matter of their consequent longevity:
1. What is 'carefree'?
Is carefree something that happens when someone else pays the bills?
Is carefree something that happens when you get away with not knowing what it takes to make your living?
Is carefree something that happens after you have given someone else control over the major decisions about your life: waht I dream to be. what I really want. what I see myself as.- and have sold your dreams out to the one who would buy your rights?
You asked this: Why do women outlive men in age?
I believe you are looking at an outdated statistic, to start with.
However, if you think that women outlive men because they are more resilient, I cannot argue with you.
It is not so much a matter of 'carefree' - examples of 'carefree' are found in much male behavior which leads female behavior into 'careful' (e.g. single mothers)\
There IS a willingness in woman to live, and live beyond expectations, beyond limitations, beyond anything.
There IS a willingness in woman to tarry - to wait - to support.
Men are different - they are needed, appreciated, and supported by women.
I do NOT agree that women 'enjoy' a carefree life more than men.

1. Because men are drafted to be disposable in war and women aren't. Woman's equality if very phony and one sided
2. Because men usually have to chase and beg and pay,..and provide and pay and pay and pay...life is more stressful for them. Unlike most women, most men don't have the other sex jumping at the chance to pay their way through life. Stress kills. This is also why there are more male criminals because some have to steal to survive because most women won't marry a man they have to take care of like men to with women. Very unfair society we live in.

some years ago men and women had very different lifestyles. women didn't smoke, drink or had so much stress as they do nowadays. that is for me the most possible reason why they did outlive men in age.
in our days the lifestyles between men and women are the same but we haven't become part of the statistics yet, and when we do figures will be different.

Women are built to carry children which is an enormous strain on the body, physically and emotionally we have stronger instincts of survival whilst carrying and having children to look after them, even in poverty and war stricken countries women survive to have healthy babies amazingly. The fact that we are the carriers of children means we are important to keep the race going which is why we are adapted to survive longer generally, as with many other species.

There is no opinion here. The statistics speak for themselves. The leading cause of premature death in people is heart disease, followed by cancer. Both diseases are exacerbated by stress, poor diet, and exposure to carcinogens. Men have more demanding, dangerous lifestyles, especially careerwise. They drink more alcohol, eat more red meat, and smoke more cigarettes than women. Obviously, these factors are going to contribute to overall shorter lifespans. If women traded places with men, within a generation or two, they would be the ones dying sooner.
(also, estrogen does lend some beneficial effects in combating heart disease.)

I heard women were genetically programmed to live longer than men so that they can look after offspring for longer.

For starters, men take most of the risks. That means many die sooner, which lowers the average.
Too, women sit on their asses while men go out and conquer the world. Conquering the world is a tough job. Sometimes it gets you killed. Sitting on your As$ is an easier job. It doesn't get you killed as often.
Medical research favors women. Take breast cancer. A LOT more money is spent on breast cancer than on prostate cancer... even though prostate cancer kills a lot more men than breast cancer kills women.
In short, men do a good job of protecting women - so women live longer.
That will probably change. There's no longer any percentage in a man protecting a women - she doesn't appreciate it, and she doesn't listen to a man when he tries to straighten her out. (How else can you explain the huge increase in female smokers!?)
Those who think it has anything to do with raising kids are full of crap.
