My favorite is bay berry. It stays a lot neater than privet, ever green, thick, if unpruned, it can get 8-10 ft., and it tolerates a wide variety of conditions. Plus it smells wonderful, BAY BERRY CANDLES

I planted 150 privet hedges along my fence line to block the view of my neighbors storage SHEDS. Mine are about 10 feet tall they block the view and the noise. They will grow quite rapidly and the more you trim them back the fuller they grow. I keep my trimmed in a natural laying trim. Not squared off. Growth height will depend on what you want.

Privet can grow pretty tall and thick, plus they have flowers in the
spring, but check out the blossoms first, cause they are quite
fragant and I found out the hard way that I am really allergic to
privet and had to cut down the privet in my yard.

I prefer bamboo, and depending on where you live, it will grow 10 to 30 feet tall. When i lived in Kansas, I used cedar (juniper?)trees that I dug up out of the pasture. They really block noise, and birds love them.

It depends on where you live. Go to the nearest nursery and ask the locals what to plant that will thrive in your conditions.
