I know all of the games and movies have thier own stories to tell, but which games and/or movies actually carry the story over. I found The movie "Advent Children" and it seemed to continue a story, but I can't find the movie that starts the story.
And is there one plot that runs through ALL of the games and movies?

Final Fantasy does not carry over the same story. It wasn't till FFX and FFX-2 that an actual story was carried over. FFVII : Advent Children was a continuation of FFVII the game. It does not have a previous movie to it...the similarities that you'll find within the games would be the character's names like Cid and the use of chocobos and moggles and other little details like that. Like I said, only FFX and FFX-2 actually carried over a plot, the rest have a story of their own.

ALL the final fantasy games tell a story, but their own story, it was widely known that no final fantasy had anything to do with the last until recently as it has become more popular over the owrld and there has been a need for it,
the first FF to be given the sequel treatment was FFX when FFX-2 came out, which followed on from FFX about 2 years afterwards,
now there are more sequels, FFVII has been given 4 extra little stories, the first was a mobile game in Japan, then advant children was relaesed, the third is dirge of cerberus which has just been released in the uk, the forth is a PSP game called core crisis i think to be released early 2007,
the new final fantasy series, FFXIII on the PS3 will have at least two sequels but not sure on their names, there was talk around the internet of a FFVIII film to be released but not sure if that is still to go ahead or if it's been scrapped!

10 and 10 II (the ones about Yuna) and Dirge of Cerberus carries over some of Advent Children but not much.

the movie is the sequel to the game....i hope that's the answer you want.and no there are no other FF sequels.they all have the same elements(names,weapons,etc.)but no sequels
