it might foam up and cause loss of oil pressure, so you should change it first chance you get. I have used a quart now and then to clean the system :)

It will not hurt the vehicle as long as you don't keep it in there for a long time. It could actually help your car. Trans fluid is high in detergent and will clean your engine out. The only side effect will be engine oil leaks. Oil has wax in it that can build up on seals and when you run the trans fluid through the engine, it will eat the wax from the seals and can cause a leak. Go ahead and drive your car to the mechanic to get the oil changed.

1. How much transmission fluid did you put?
In reality, its just the viscosity (thickness) factor that would be a problem. and this is when the engine gets very hot. At higher temperatures, the oil starts to break down.
If you filled your engine with cooking oil, 1 mile won't even be a problem. My friends and I have have tried it 500kms no problem.
For your own peace of mind, go to the garage and have the oil changed.
You'll be ok.

Transmission fluid is oil.
It won't harm anything. In fact due to it's high cleaning properties it might clean up some sludge and make your car run better.
My auto shop teacher in high school even recommended switching a pint with the regular oil for a "new" used car.
-However you don't want to run a long distance with this. While it won't hurt your vehicle, it isn't actually formulated for the job that the motor oil does.

we had a guy do that in the shop i work in the other day so dont feel like a idiot cuz he was actually a mechanic. just drain the trans fluid and change the filter again, flush it with oil a lil bit and then fill it back up, adn then do a complete oil change again in a few weeks and all teh trans fluid should be out by then.

Dont worry. A car can run with the oil all gone for a short time, but will ruin it eventually.. Trannie fluid is thinner, just drain it, and put the correct oil in it from now on.

i own a repair shop, and no its not going to kill your car ,it may clean it out real good though but its not going to kill it,but you do need to have the oil changed in it,but actually old time mechanics used to add a quart of trans fluid ,and run them for a while, and then shut them off, this really did clean all the grim out of the engine,,but you haven't killed your car,,good luck and don't worry ,its a small mistake,,i hope this help,s.
