Im in the minority, but I don't like real trees. When I was a kid my parents were divorced and my mom always had fake trees, and my dad the real ones, and I really disliked them. The smell is nice for awhile, but is to strong to take for a month, especially if you have allergies - pine needles are quite painful, and when im crawling around arranging presents I don't like being stabbed 15,000 times - and they are such a pain to go out and buy, bring home, set up, and take down. And my dad had the "snow" covered ones, which are even messier, and the "snow" got in my eyes all the time. I'd rather not be grumpy when dealing with a tree. I also don't really like the idea of killing a tree when a fake one looks perfectly fine.
But not to sound so negative about real trees - theyre nice for other peoples houses =)
Fake ones are so much easier for me though, and you can make them very beautiful, and sometimes you can't even tell the difference - I really like the fiber optic ones (the giant ones, not the tabletop versions), which have changeable color wheels.
However, I don't have any kids yet, but I was reading a magazine that had "baby's first Christmas" ideas, and it said to buy a real tree for the first year, and plant it in your backyard. I think that would be really neat, considering it survives, to be able to tell your 10 year old "that was your first Christmas tree!" And your not senselessly killing a tree =)
And the upside down trees are so cute!! They're more convenient for smaller spaces.

Real tree - one with roots so I can plant it after Christmas. Laugh at me, but I can't stand the thoughts of killing a perfectly good tree just so I can dress it up for a few weeks and then just toss it aside later on. And I have seen the upside down trees, which are sad. Actually, I saw one last year and it took me several minutes to figure out that someone did that on purpose!

Actually, from what I've seen/heard, those upside down trees have ALL sold out and there is a very high demand for them! Anyways, after about 4 years of having a fake tree, we are FINALLY getting a real one. I'm very happy :) "Ain't nothing like the real thing baby!"

I always have a fake tree because I like to put the tree up December 1 and leave it up until New Year's Day. I saw this TV thing once where they did a demo with a dry tree in a mock living room and simulated an electrical short (like from lights). It was really scary how fast the whole place went up in flames! I am paranoid...fake tree for me!

It you live in an area where trees as abundant then you can have a real tree. But when you are in the cramped city, a simple fake tree would be sufficient to make you feel the spirit of christmas

We have a fake tree, BUT we also have a 5 month old kitten that would have no problem climbing into it, knocking it over constantly, chewing on and playing with the lights and ornaments, etc. So, we won't put a tree up until he is older and knows NOT to do these things. I know that our 1 1/2 year old cats wouldn't do this, but the kitten sure would!

I have not seen the "upside down trees" yet. Where can they be found?? We use a "fake tree" because of family allergies and the children's feet may be harmed by the needles. Christmas has really sneaked up quickly this year!! Have a great week!

Fake. I have a little silver tinsel tree that sits on a table. It's a lot less work, plus I don't have the room for a real tree in this house!

I usually get fake trees. Real trees, well if I got that I would have trouble getting my cat down because she is very stubborn and she loves real trees. lol. Besides real trees catches on fire easily especially when my parents comes over for a christmas party, they don't watch where they swing their cigarettes at. I wouldn't want my nice house burn down lol.
Rock on!
