I was a homemaker for about 20 years and I was not lazy. I raised my children, kept them and the house clean. I shopped for the groceries, cooked the food, took them to and picked them up from school and did the laundry. I made sure the bills got paid and that my husband was laid.
After I got the last of the 4 kids in school full time, I went to school full time. Still doing the shopping, washing, cooking and bill paying. I graduated with honors and now am employed by the Chicago Board of Ed.
It is actually easier to simply go to work every day, than to do all of the other caretaking responsibilities that come with staying at home.

A "stay-at-home unemployed lazy mooch?" Hardly. Most homemakers I know do alot more than sit around on a daily basis. Actually, I can safely say that most of their daily activities greatly outweigh those of their working mates. My sister, for example, has three kids, a husband (who, by the way, is a project manager for a major offshore company), and a huge home to take care of. One of her kids, my oldest nephew, is thirteen years old and highly involved in sports, so you could only imagine how many trips to school and/or games she has to make each week. The second child is a seven year old girl who is into the performing arts, so getting her to school, violin practice, and whatever else she has going on within a given week is a huge task in itself. The last child, a toddler, is autistic and keeps her going all day long. In between taking care of the kids, getting them to school, cooking, cleaning, picking the kids up from school and/or school functions, performing other "wifely duties," and managing her home-based business, I just don't know how she keeps her sanity.

homemaker...to me means someone who is making the home...
cleaning, cooking, etc....It is more than a full time job...its 24/7
So, in my opinion, homemaker is not the word for a stay at home lazy mooch. Maybe, there is a problem with the person,
maybe the parents want them there, there could be so many if's and but's. In my opinion, if he or she does not do anything and is healthy........It is the mother and father's fault for not putting their foot down.....Like a mother bird....You finally have to kick them out and learn to fly on their own.....Without the parents doing this,
they will mooch/take forever..Free food, free everything.....
They will never grow up!! And they will not try too!

In a way, yes, but a lot of home-makers spend their time having everything perfect for when the other half comes home from work, has a nice dinner on the table, get's their clothes ready for the next day, etc. Its a lot better than mooching off mum & dad for sure

Nope, it's someone that devotes all their time to their family and house. But, in some cases the unemployed lazy mooch does apply. Like those nasty skanks that lay up on thier @sses all day, making babies without daddies, or at least ones that work, living off of public aid and food stamps, and not TRYING to change their lives.

no it's not. i'm not a mom and i don't stay at home but if i were. here's what i'd be doing. I'd be cleaning, taking care of the kids, doing all the shopping for the house, cooking my man supper every night, doing laundry, and figuring the bills. kids can be a handful with every thing else a woman has to do. they require a lot of attention so it takes longer to do all your every day work around the house. they aint moochers either. because you're getting something out of it too. food, and everything done when you get home. you aint got to do anything else. everything is taken care of it's equal. plus usually homemakers stay at home because either they just had a baby or they're husband told them they dont have to work. i'd stay at home for the first 2 months or so if i just had a baby then i'd go back to work. because that's vital for the development and relationship with its mother.

No & yes its better than an adult shucking responsibility..Being independent
is important to survival but a "domestic goddess" has those responsibilities & more...Unless you have experienced being a stay at home Mom or Dad you can't possibly understand the depth of all involved in the tasks presented..It is an admirable position to be in,not one to be taken lightly at all..

I'm sure there are SOME out there like you've so eloquently described, but mostly they'd be hard working at home mothers who do EVERYTHING at home, while hubby goes out and earns his family a living. I must admit though, I DO envy those women I see coming in to do their shopping in their tennis gear after having had coffee with the girls, (while I'm stacking the shelves before my shift ends so I can go home to do housework and cook the diner!).

Gee, lemme think....
No.
And people that call homemakers such do nothing but tick me off. Being a homemaker is a huge job in itself, and those who choose such a path dont get near the recognition they should.

It depends on if they can afford to have one person stay at home or not. It is different if only one person is doing all the work while the other one sits on their butt all day long.

I am a stay at home mom, but that is our choice and we can afford it.
