The minuend is the number from which you are subtracting.
The subtrahend is the number that you are subtracting.

minuend - subtrahend = remainder

You are told that the remainder is 275.
And that the minuend is 3 times as great (3 x 275) = 825

So your equation is:
825 - s = 275

You can easily solve for s and get:
s = 550

c - b = a

Minuend = c

subtrahend = b

Difference or Remainder = a

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

if your are subtracting 1000 minus 700 the difference or remainder is 300

1000- 700 = 300

1000 = Minuend

700 = Subtrahend

300 = diffeence or remainder

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

the remainder is 3 times as great

275 x 3 = 825

the Minuend is 1100

The subtrahend is 825

The difference is 275

1100 - 825 = 275
