Alcoholism is an addiction. Most Alcoholics won't admit that they are alcoholics. They spend most of their time looking forward to their next drink. That's why it's a disease. It takes over their ability to reason and their freewill. Their body has to have that alcohol and their just not satisfied until they get it!!

The ad says "drink moderately". You can drink alcohol but with small amount. Too much drinking makes you an alcoholism which is bad for health. Little wine warms the heart, but excessive drinking causes ugliness and drunkenness.

Because, some people are hooked on it. They know it's bad for them but they crave it,and have to have it. Just like drugs.
Alcoholism is a disease and just like other diseases, It needs to be treated. My first husband die from it. He got sick with pancreatitis and cirrhosis of the liver and the Dr. told him he has to stop drinking or he'll die. Even though it made him deathly ill, he still continued to drink. He wouldn't drink when he felt sick, but he'd get alittle better and then he start up again. He would sleep all the time and couldn't eat . His stomach bloated out like one of those starving kids from Ethiopia and his eyes looked sunken in. It was awful. He looked so bad.He wasn't a stupid man either. He made straight A's all through school and graduated Kum Lata from Texas A&M University in Engineering. .But for being so smart(a genius)this was so stupid to not take better care of his health & stop drinking when he knew he would die. And he did at age 50.So see, Alcohol can be very addictive.

Some people just don't like who they are and alcohol is a short term remedy. Others drink to socialize and reduce inhibitions. I've heard that some drink just to get drunk. Alcohol is legal and drugs aren't. Alcohol is more socially acceptable. Alcohol is easier to procure in some areas.
Please realize that there is a difference between drinking and alcoholism. Summary, alcoholics just don't like there circumstance in life.

some people drink socially and are fine..but for an alcoholic to drink, thier body depends on it, it's like a drug to them. some alcholoics try to stop, but get sick because thier body thinks it needs it....my mom tried to stop twice before, and both times, she had hallucinations and pretty much lost her mind until she started drinking again. alcoholism can be genetic in some blood lines, as my grandfather was, which led my mom, her brother (bless his soul) and my cousin to become alcoholics....the best answer you'll get will come from an alcoholic, because if you aren't one, it's very hard to understand thier reasons, since those who aren't don't realize it as a drug or a sickness, we just look at it as an excuse to be sedated

BECAUSE you can not stop yourself. It does not make sense, but if you are an alcoholic, you KNOW you are wrong but you still continue.

i think it's because it's fun, people know smoking is bad but they do it because they enjoy it, people know fast food is harmful to their health but they eat it because it tastes good
basically most people prefer short term sensory pleasure over longterm quality of life
