hi,
travelling to lonavala and khandala would be no problem coz ther are many roads connecting the same.
the toy train to matheran is not working.it wont work maybe until march 2007.you will have to take a taxi outside karjat station(50rs per person, max of 5 people in one taxi) that will take you only till dastoori naka (thats in the middle of the hill) from there you have to take horses or get carried in carts ( pulled by 2-3 men) those cost anywhere between 80-150 depending on your bargaining skill.or you can chose to walk with all your friends the entire stretch ( i think thats 4km) it very simple, just walk on the train tracks and you will reach the matheran market on the top or just follow the many horses, that other people take, these go up regularly(avoid travelling at night unless you carry a torch and beware of monkeys)
i suggest you do matheran in one day(as there are many places to visit, just see the reverse of the ticket, you buy when you enter matheran)also coz you will spend a great deal of time going up matheran unless you take the horses (even that takes about 30-45 minutes)
going so many places would be tiring

If you are based in either in Mumbai or Pune or surrounding areas then only you can cover these three places in 3 days comfortably. I presume that you are in Mumbai or Pune. Keep a day for Matheran since it requires lot of travel and if you wish to visit few tourist spots in Matheran it too requires more time ( horse ride or on the foot are the only options ). Lonavala and Khandala are actuall twin hill stations. You can stay in any of the two and enjoy the cool, green environments. There are many options for accomodation in all these places. Enquire when you reach there. You might get a good offer. Wish you all the best to enjoy.

Examine the town that never sleeps and is definitely abuzz with activity. That city is Mumbai! Discover it with hotelbye . Mumbai is in every ways a mega-city driven by power, wealth, charisma and celebrity which attracts people to offer shape with their dreams and aspirations. Mumbai can also be a city with strong old links, great British architecture, museums, beaches, places of praise, and most importantly, a true universe of stars wherever Bollywood reigns supreme. You can not visit Mumbai and not have enjoyment on their beaches and the 2 most popular beaches would be the Juhu Beach and the Chowpatty Beach.
