If it's someone you're interested in and you're caught staring, smile and shyly look away. If the person doesn't take the hint and come over, they are lame.
If you're staring at someone who is freakish, and you're caught, just look away.

Depends on why you were staring at them. If you think they are hot hold their gaze and watch their reaction. If you were staring because they are gross look away as fast as you can. Unless of course they were picking thier nose then you would hold the gaze to let them know you saw what they did. Then they will spend the rest of the day wondering if you really saw them. Good Times.

That would depend on why you were staring in the first place. Whether or not you were oggling them, or just happened to be glancing in their particular direction, or something like that. Either way though, dont instantly look away. Thats like backing down from a non exsistant battle. Hold it for a second or two, then glance away, making it seem as if you were simply looking around the room. If someone calls you on it, blame it on your sense of situational awareness.

Usually I hold their gaze for just a moment longer, and then I look away :)

It used to be when i was younger i would look away immediately because i was painfully shy...but now that im older i will hold their gaze for just a few seconds more and smile..then look away

depends on the person that i am staring at. If i'm trying to get them to notice that i am noticing them them i will hold their gaze

I'm a really shy person so when I'm caught staring at someone I immediately look away.
