My friends and I want to go camping this coming Spring Break somewhere warmer than Indiana. The first thought was to go camping on the beach. What a great idea! Where's a good spot in the Carolinas, or somewhere out East, that we can camp out ON or NEAR the beach?

Nag's head near Kill Devil hills and Oregon inlet in the outer banks. There is a campsite there that is part of the National Seashore. You may want to check out Cape Hatteras which is further south. Great beaches and good camping I've been there myself. I live in Indiana too.

I believe there is a campground near the beach on James Island near Charleston, South Carolina. However, at that time of year the water is still a bit cool although the weather is usually nice.

Also, I stayed at a place called Great American Campground in Key Largo (not as busy as Key West) and we had manatees swimming up to the boat dock. It's not on the beach, but it is on a waterway. It was really nice and it had a swimming area. It was super clean and had a well stocked camp store, including s'mores fixins'. Plus, it was warm even though it was only February.

This is slightly off beat but if you go to Everglades National Park and take the road that ends at Flamingo you can rent a canoe and camp out on a raised platform called a chickee or you can use the campsite at flamingo.
Florida bay is a beautiful body of water
There is also campsites in the Florida keys
On the outer banks there is also camping on Ocracoke
In SC there is camping at Myrtle beach SP and a little south of that Huntington beach SP -which I have used on two occasions.
have fun

You should check out Chincoteague and Assateague islands off the eastern shore of MD and VA. It's an awesome state park with incredible camping spots right along the ocean. You'll wake up in your tent and walk a few yards to the beach. Plus it's under $20 per night for a campsite.

You can make reservations at http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/eastern/assateague.html

Check out Assateague Island in Maryland. It may still be a little chilly during spring break but you can camp near if not on the beach. It is really nice and they are known for the wild ponies that live in the park. Here's the web site http://www.nps.gov/asis/
