The advantages include: making money for survival and tuition, work experience, a "reality check" of what it's like outside school, meeting new people and learning new skills.

The disadvantages include: taking time away from schoolwork (this is especially harmful for people who need to keep a certain grade level to keep scholarships etc), extra stress, fatigue, possibly hazardous work conditions (younger workers tend to have worse jobs), and possible exploitation at work because of one's youth. Any young worker is wise to learn all he or she can about the labor laws in the state or province, so that they know their rights at work. Good luck!

It goes both ways. I went to a small university and worked only on campus for 4 years.

Advantages: Cash, if you work on campus you get to know more students, flexible hours (because they tend to understand you're primarily a student), most offices are closed during spring break and other breaks so you don't have to ask to take off work.

Disadvantages: Less time for socializing.

I always tried to find a job where I could sit and do hw. For example, desk attendant at the dorms, lab assistant at the computer labs, etc. If I were you, I would try and find a desk job - you tend to meet a lot of people, you usually have access to a computer, and plenty of time to study! But of course, you cannot always chose your place of work...

i go to school full time and i work two jobs and seven days a week. There really isn't much time for homework and not alot of relaxation time so i stay up late. I don't really mind it too much though, you just have to keep up motivation to do homework. It makes me feel more responsible and I like staying busy so it works for me. Plus having money and saving up money also works for me! I wouldn't go out and get two jobs to start though, get a part time job and see how well it works out with school. Let them know when your finals are coming up and stress that you;ll need more time to study then.
