For my family, usually sometime after Thanksgiving, we put the tree up and decorate it. Then in our family we open some of the presents on Christmas Eve. Then on Christmas Day, we either spend it with my wife's family or my family.

I think that paper chain garland is a great idea! Hope you don't mind if I borrow that idea from you for our family, Claudia. I always buy an ornament for our tree every year. The one we bought for this year has 5 snowmen on it, one for each of us. We also try to make a popcorn garland for our tree. I say try, because we usually end up eating more than we string. LOL We also sing some Christmas carols on Christmas Eve. And during December we usually try to watch all the Christmas specials, like Rudolf the Red Nosed Raindeer, Frosty the snowman, How the Grinch stole Christmas and The Drummer Boy.

We usually get the tree the day after thanksgiving and decorate it, during that time we decorate the house also. Take the kids to go see santa at the mall a few days before christmas eve. During christmas eve we wrap the presents and drink eggnog while watching our favorite christmas movies or christmas music. Christmas morning we open presents with all of the family there and make gingerbread cookies and our famous pineapple glazed ham and sweet potatoes yummy!!

we put up our tree the week after Thanksgiving and then my husband puts lights up on the out side of our house and gets on the roof and puts a plastic Santa near the Chminey,,, then we go to my moms on Christmas eve have a big dinner, open the presents with them and then we come home and my husband reads the Christmas story out of the bible and then the kids go to bed and then Santa comes,,, On Christmas Morning we get woke up by the kids cause they know not to get into the presents untill getting mommy and daddy up first,,, My husband pass out presents out and we have 5 kids and we let one at a time open there presents from the oldest to the youngest cause that way everyone gets to see what every body got,,, then I go and make a great big Christmas breakfast and then we sit around watching the kids play with what they got and putting things together and putting batteries in things,,, I sure am going to miss this when the kids grow up and that wont be long cause they grow fast and they are almost grown now then sence we live in TN and all of our family lives in Ohio we stay home on Christmas and enjoy our kids and watch the Christmas Story,,, I hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Christmas morning we get up early, and read Scripture - typically Isaiah (the prophecy of the coming of Christ) and Luke (the record of Christ's birth).

Then we open presents, and that we do that pretty slowly. Meaning that no two people can open a present at the same time. One at a time, around the room. We try to get into everyone's excitement about the gifts, so that it's not just a "gimme free-for-all".

It generally takes several hours to finish around the tree, by which time we're starving, and the hosts (typically my parents) cooks a big brunch. We gorge ourselves, clean up (both from food and presents), and then take a nap.

Thanksgiving is similar, except without the tree and presents: food, then coma. :-)

I put my tree up on Thanksgiving and begin decorating that week. I usually get my cards out by the 10th. For many years we used to go to my aunt's house on xmas eve, and they came to our house on xmas day. We usually go to my parents on xmas morning to open gifts then they cook a huge breakfast for everyone and we spend some time there and have dinner in late afternoon.

our traditons change every year.last year,we stayed up till 12 am so we could open our presents early.but were not gonna do it this year cause right after we open our presents we fall asleep.but we did'nt open all of the gifts, just some.then when we wake back up we open more.we usually go over my auntee's house when it gets dark.we do bible readings and drink tea at home.my lil sis and i do our own 2-person skits to keep out mom entertained.we do these skits almost every holiday.unfortunately,my dad does not celebrate christmas so its not much fun.the day after christmas we celebrate kwanzaa, which is not as fun as christmas cause our dad never give us any gifts and we hardly do any celebrating at all!

another tradition is that i give gifts to my dolls.(i collect baby dolls)i usually spent lots of money on their clothes every year but this year i am selling most of their clothes.(they are real baby clothes)

we put up the christmas tree the day before thanksgiving.usually every year we have fun going out to get a fresh tree but this year my mom's friend has given us a fake one.

but this year things have really changed.i am struggling with money for christmas presents i have run out.how do i earn money? i also volunteer at the library and am going to be in a christmas parade this saturday! my parents are'nt paying me allowance anymore.whats a girl to do? but i must keep my hopes up.my mom's 37th birthday is right before chistmas and i don't think i can get enough money.i also have a picky lil sis that wants everything she sees and has more money than me.This is the most busiest christmas ever for me!Well, theres the story.i hope you enjoyed it.

Well, we usually hear mass on Christmas Eve, get together & eat... on Christmas Day, we spend lunch time until dinner with close relatives... we spend time together... just being with each other is really something we truly enjoy... we then give each other our gifts, a hug & warm wishes... Happy Holidays :)

My family gathers together early on Christmas morning and rip open presents, eat a Christmas breakfast, and then go caroling around our neighborhood.

I started a construction paper chain for the tree when my first child was born, added to it every year, eventually when they were old enough the kids would add to it, signing and dating the last ring. They are now young adults and it's a long, somewhat fragile, chain that we put on the tree instead of garland.
