Many years ago when my eldest son was nine, he came to me and said that kids at school were making fun of him because he believed in Santa Claus. He then asked me if Santa Claus was real.

The answer I have him then, and the same answer he gives his children today is: "Santa Claus is as real as you and I."

"I knew it!", he declared.

Not only was the answer truthful, albeit metaphorically for Santa Claus lives in our hearts, it was exactly what he wanted to know. It made him feel good and reinforced the positive image he had of Christmas.

For those who disparage the notion of the Good Elf, leave to children the notions of children while there's time. They find out soon enough that 'truth' in whatever sense it's intended, means a whole lot less than what they're taught.

As for Santa Claus, I believe in him today. I hope this answers your question.
