I haven't been able to find many work from home opportunities. A lot of places will charge you a fee to sign up for their programs, that isn't a risk that I've wanted to take. I have found some ways to make some money in my spare time by reading emails and filling out surveys. It is nice to get checks in the mail from these companies, sometimes you can even try new products for free.
Here is a website that lists a few different companies as well as a description of what to expect.
http://www.geocities.com/bj84015/makemoneyonline.htm
There aren't any fees involved with them. If you want some more info send me an email. If you find any other good work at home opportunities drop me a line.

You can do alot fo different things online, it just depends on what you want to do.
Of course you have MLM type companies.
Then you have Affiliate programs.
And you have content driven websites which sell advertising.
MLM seems to be the easiest for beginners because most already have some sort of support system in place which will help you learn the ins and out of internet marketing.
Affiliate programs like clickbank or paydotcom will allow you to signup for free and sell other peoples products for a % commission whic is generally 50% to 80% depending onthe product. This is a little more dificult to earn money from because you must already know how to promote and advertise online.
Content websites with adsense and advertising. This is a way of earing money where you build authority sites in certain niche markets and put adsense adds on the site and when peopel click on your adds you earn anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars depending on the ad. This is alot more difficult and take more time than the other to see a profit as it takes time for your website to become popular.
I hope that gives you some ideas.

Log on to BPO sites that are currently outsourcing from India and USA. Companies that require its representatives to be online for atleast 16 hours a day using email, messaging and telemarketing mostly provide employees online work from home. The only requirements would be 24hr Internet connectivity, messaging software and dedicated phoneline with STD/ISD

You would have to have a skill that you can offer to an employer that allows "telecommunting," as we call it in the U.S, or working from home. Other than that, self-employment as a consultant will work. Almost any sort of work requires you to leave the house at some point during the week, however.
