what makes the very few high school sweethearts actually marry one another?

I am marrying my first boyfriend and my high school sweetheart/best friend.

We first dated when we were 12 til for almost a year. Young love. High school happened and hormons happened. Girls developed boobs and he wanted to explore other girls. It hurt. However, as an adult, I understood it was best as we were too young to get serious. I still loved him and he still loved me. We just needed to explore life and grow up first before we realized we rather be together.

We are both 21 now and plan to get married in 15 months.

A lot of it was the growing up factor of needing to mature. A lot of high school relationships is just young love, immature or lustful. However, there is those who break up and go back when ready to settle down or those who always was able to stick it out. Then there is those who like you one year and dislike you after high school.

That is what high school is about. Exploring, adventering and making mistakes. It is when a person becomes an adult is when they take all those experiences and place it to who they are. Part of growing up.

Growing up is about those who either stay together or go on two opposite directions.

It is the same thing with friends and best friends. Those who were my friends in from grade school til high school are no where to be found. My ex best friend took a route different from me and sadly, that ended our friendship as we don't see eye to eye anymore.

Then you get those who are best friends for over 30+ years, starting from high school.

Honors was set up to separate the students who don't care or as not academically excelled and give the more advanced students a better chance at college and other opportunities. If you were to be a doctor and graduated with honors in high school and college in life and biological sciences, for example, you would be hired first over the average Joe. You are not being cheated out of your hard work, it will pay off, dont worry.

some people are just meant to be and are lucky enough to find their sweet hearts in high school. Im still with my high school sweetheart and we plan on getting married when I finish college. i guess we're one of the lucky couples :)
but one of the biggest issues that make or break a relationship is trust. if you cant trust you're sweetheart when they are not with you, especially if you go to separate colleges and or one of you joins the military (like my bf did), it will never work.

The majority don't work out because high school is no time to find a partner. Most teenagers don't know what they want. They are more in love with love than their boyfriend or girlfriend or date just for the fun of it. There's nothing wrong with this of course, it's all good fun dating around when you're a teenager or in your early twenties. Then you grow up and figure out yourself.

In those cases sometimes one continues to mature for for a longer period. In others one or both may realize that they didn't allow them selves to experience life prior to making a commitment.

Parents... life changes (college, moving, etc)... the fact that lots of 18yr olds have no idea what they want from life, and people change a lot.... immaturity ... lots of reasons! lol
