I have a 2001 mitsubishi eclipse, when I first start it up and am reversing out of a parking space or whatever, and I have the brakes on, the car jerks a lot, only when the brakes are on and usually in reverse. Its jsut for the first 20 seconds or so though>
What could this be?

It's a 2001, have the brakes been replaced, if the rotors were turned have them replaced it sounds like they may be slightly warped and when you drive it forward this heats them up.
Do you use the Emergency brake? then the drums may go out of round and this would also be due to turning drums. As a note to remember. in the long run replace rotors and drums never have them turned as heat will affect them regardless if they are in spec or not, it is also cheaper in the long run.
The rear brakes could also be hanging up.

If your idle speed is set to high, that could cause your car to jerk a lot when reversing and on the brakes. I've seen it happen many times.

Try letting it run for a few minutes before you put it in reverse.

I had this subject in a Renault 5 as quickly as. For me it replaced into the speedo cable fraying after which it snapped, had to purchase a brand new one, replaced into approximately £20 and it replaced into superb after that. try lubricating interior the cable and spot how that is going.
