Okay so we have tried updating it but it messed up our computer so we reloaded OS 9 this was about 2 years ago. Now lately a new problem has arisen-now it will freeze up during any application, I can't print or save or do anything. We used Norton Disk Doctor and it found major errors in some internet files but that was about it. I have no idea what is wrong-we don't have many files or applications on it either. Please if someone has any idea how to fix it or if we need to get someone to come screw around with it or if we need to get a new computer please offer your smart computer minds.

Hello iveybanana,

I agree with the above folk's suggestions. First, go to your local mac store and get them to take a look at it. They can check it out and see what you may need to be done. Some of the older Norton Disk Doctors will actually screw things up with your Mac. It will be good for the technician to check this stuff out for you.

Also, you really need to look at Mac OS X alternatives. Many of the Classic Mac programs have already updated their software to work even better in Mac OS X. If not, then there are other software companies that have created better alternatives to use.

I have slowly moved on up to where I don't even use Classic applications anymore. You should be seeing where Mac OS X is far superior to what you've been using. No system crashes, protected memory, no need to assign memory to applications, better pre-emptive multitasking, to name just a few of the benefits of moving on.

Best of luck to you.

This was a classic symptom of the "classic" Mac OSes, conflicting extensions. You'll want to disable all third-party extensions, reboot, try the thing out. If it works fine, enable another...etc, etc, etc, until you find the offender/s.

Frankly, Apple is no longer supporting that OS or any before OS X. Having a G4 is reason enough to upgrade to OS X. Once you get used to it, you'll wonder how you could have stood the classic OSes.

take it to a mac/apple store.
they will look at it, give you a free estimate, and will fix it.
it will usually take about a week.

your problem might have to do with the hard drive dying...if its loading up slowly or the fans arent working...or it locks up alot.
