Hedging a guess - wouldn't a horseshoe be luckier in general as a four leaf clover (shamrock) tends to favour the Irish? Unsure of whether this extends to people of Irish descent but because it's particularly potent for them perhaps it's not so much for everyone else and the horseshoe doesn't seem to specify to a certain group as far as I know, although isn't a horseshoe unlucky if it's hung upside down?? If so, maybe there's a greater risk of bad luck....

I think the horseshoe is luckier for most. Ya see that wee leprecaun could be hidin' under that Four Leaf Clover. That could be his little umbrella sort of.
If you are on good terms with the little fella now? Then you are alright.
But are you wearin' green?
Then you are in big trouble. You will p... him off, that makes him jealous!
