I live in So California where it is pretty hot during summer.

The concrete is an addition to an existing patio and also extending to the sides of the house. I am concerned about cracking. Contractor says no rebar/ no wire mesh necessary and he is using 2500 psi city sidewalk, curb mix.

personally I dont like wire mesh rebar is fine for structural integrity but as far as flatwork goes I would recommend using a mix with fiber mesh in it its fiberglass strands mixed right into the concrete and the stuff is a real mother to break out and as far as 2500 psi that should be fine but I dont pour anything less than 3000psi

Wire Mesh In Concrete

if the concrete goes in to tension, it will crack, this can happen during curing or during cold periods when the concrete will tend to contract. Also, if you dont have a good sub base, and the concrete has to span any soft spots, it will crack.

How large is the patio- if its less than 100 square feet you might be okay as SO CA has little temperature variation as compared to say Minnesota. Will the contractor give you a written warranty to replace the concrete if it cracks in the next couple years?

I would use fiberglass ri-enforced concrete,6-6 10-10 wire mess will do.so will 2500 psi. Make sure your base is solid an compacted, then cut control joints. Its afact of life.Concrete will crack, but you can control it. Good Luck

If I really loved the person, yes. First I would get through the concrete exterior and then scale that barbed wire fence.

re-bar and/or mesh, won't keep concrete from cracking. It keeps it from spreading apart after it cracks. If you got references, trust the contractor to do his job.
